June 2012

On June 7, 2012, Otak’s urban designers, Ben Bortolazzo and Martin Glastra van Loon, were invited to participate in an intensive day-long workshop focused on Portland’s developing Central City 2035 plan (CC2035). The purpose of the workshop, organized by the Portland chapters of the AIA, ASLA and APA, was to assist the City of Portland as it moves forward with its CC2035 planning process. CC2035 is an update to the 1988 Central City Plan, which is the existing plan and policy for the downtown and central areas of Portland. In coordination with the Portland Plan, CC2035 will address challenges and opportunities in the Central City to ensure that this unique economic, transportation, cultural and educational hub will continue to be a vibrant resource over the next 25 years. Throughout the workshop, Ben and Martin explored issues, developed concepts and tested ideas with city leadership, staff and fellow professionals. Results of the successful workshop were displayed to the public as part of Portland’s monthly “First Thursday” art gallery visitation event.
