Pathways Place Ellensburg, Washington

Expertise:

Three multifamily buildings and a community building, including a converted motel, add 78 affordable housing units to the Central Washington region at Pathways Place. In leading the design of the indoor and outdoor spaces, Otak also managed the full consultant team to create an environment that goes beyond housing alone to foster connections through community.

Housing and Landscaping Designed to Create Community

Pathways Place was designed to serve as a first stop on the path out of houselessness by providing affordable housing within a community-centric setting. Among the three multifamily buildings is the adaptive reuse of a motel that was originally built in the early 1980’s where rooms were converted into studio apartments that include kitchenettes. Along with a community building, the site is situated around an open space that forms a serene, park-like courtyard intended to facilitate a strong sense of community within the development. A blended building and landscape design forms great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors while playing and interacting safely. Altogether the intentional arrangement provides a welcoming space where families and residents can gather, connect, and thrive.
