Cool Planning: A Handbook on Local Strategies to Slow Climate Change

Location: OR
Client: ODOT TGM Program

A team led by Otak created the Cool Planning Handbook for Oregon’s Transportation and Growth Management (TGM) program, whose mission is to help Oregon communities create vibrant, livable places where people can walk, bike, take transit or drive where they want to go. Launched in 2010, the Cool Planning Handbook describes a series of low-tech, low-cost techniques that can help communities reduce their carbon footprints through integrated land use and transportation planning and the reduction of vehicle miles traveled. Communities around Oregon are now using the handbook as a local planning resource, and it is increasingly being consulted by communities elsewhere in the country.
