Pioneer Square Park and Occidental Park Improvements

Location: Seattle, WA
Client: Seattle Parks and Recreation

Following the implementation planning, Otak prepared design development and contract documents for the paving, drainage and site furnishings at Pioneer Square Park on a fast track basis. Otak also prepared schematic plans and contract documents for the extensive restoration of Occidental Park. The construction scope of work included large tree removal, repaving the entire park, new bocce courts and stone masonry bases for the traditional carved wood art pieces. The subsurface work included a new irrigation system, side sewer, storm drainage system, refurbished lighting and power for programmed events. Because the park is in an area of uncontrolled fill, Otak prepared a paving plan based on a grid of reinforced grade beams that created isolated square areas of unit pavers that could be easily repaired in case of differential settlement.
