Swamp Creek Improvements

Location: Kenmore, WA
Client: City of Kenmore

Upstream development near the City of Kenmore was putting pressure on Swamp Creek and worsening flooding conditions. Working with Kenmore staff, Otak designed and managed the implementation of several flood-reduction and stream-restoration measures. Otak’s assessment of existing conditions included: upstream analysis; stream habitat surveys; wetland delineations; impact assessments; and stream hydraulics and sediment transport analyses. Project design incorporated bioengineered bank stabilization, habitat improvements and stable channel design. The channel modifications, creation of floodplain wetlands and restoration of riparian vegetation are expected to improve fish and wildlife habitat, improve conditions for residents and reduce frequency of maintenance dredging.
