August 2015

On Monday, a group from the Architecture department at Otak took a trip to see the nearly completed MET Community & Educational Center. The project features a large community pool, K-12 classrooms, a gymnasium and worship space, as well as a smaller community meeting room and administrative offices. The project was designed around a large existing tree that was able to be preserved.  As with a community funded project, many of the interior finishes were sourced within the community, donated or otherwise.

The Muslim Educational Trust (MET) was founded in 1993 with a mission to serve and bring the community together through Education, Outreach, Scholarship, and Recreation and to enrich the public’s understanding and dispel common myths and stereotypes about Islam. MET seeks to serve the growing Muslim community’s educational, social, and spiritual needs in order to develop generations of proud and committed Muslims who will lead our community to the forefront of bridge-building dialogue, faith-based community service, and stewardship of Earth and humanity.
