The Hawaii Pedestrian Toolbox project created by Otak won an APA National Planning Excellence Award for Transportation Planning! The toolbox is a companion document to the Statewide Pedestrian Master Plan for Hawaii and presents context sensitive design guidelines and complete streets design details, as well as guidance for education, maintenance, and operation of pedestrian facilities. In addition to developing the toolbox, Otak assisted CH2M Hill, the prime consultant for the project, with overall plan development, graphic design, and stakeholder involvement and education efforts. The plan documents policy, existing conditions, and efforts in education, enforcement, and engineering that will be used to implement pedestrian initiatives and improve pedestrian safety in Hawaii. The Hawaii Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration provided leadership and guidance for the project. Otak is proud to have been a part of the team on this important, award-winning project!
