May 2013

As part of a team including Wildish Standard Paving Co., Pendelton Ready Mix and Knife River Prestress, Otak was nominated for the Bridge category in the 33rd Annual Excellence in Concrete Awards program for the US395: McKay Creek to Silvies Slough Design-Build project. Working with geotechnical and environmental subconsultants Shannon & Wilson and Mason, Bruce & Girard, Otak designed seven replacement bridges and one bridge rehabilitation, all of which used a variety of aggregate and concrete mixes for the girders, decks, bents, MSE walls, and paving. Aesthetics was considered at all sites, which included the nearby John Day Fossil Beds and a designated Wild and Scenic portion of the North Fork John Day River. The project will enable travelers and industry to use the project section of US395 in comfort and safety.
