June 2011

On May 19th five firms were honored at the AIA Washington Council’s 2011 Civic Design Award ceremony at the ACT Theater in Seattle. To qualify, projects had to have been publically funded and designed in the last six years.

Seven awards were given (two Honor, four Merit, and one People’s Choice). Selected from many great entries, Otak was awarded a Merit Award for the Sound Transit Link Light Rail - Beacon Hill Station. Merit awards went to civic architecture with beauty and function.

Jury members said that winners were chosen due to their use of innovation, material selection, and integration that created a design that enhances the built environment.
