This landmark $240 million facility leverages its waterfront location to promote tourism, business and public recreation. As lead design-build consultant for the 103,000-square-meter Hotel and Spa, Otak has managed all architecture, engineering, landscape architecture and design coordination. Sustainability has been a key component of the entire project, from its 400-room hotel and 220 serviced apartments to its 1,000-person ballroom and automated subgrade garage for 2,000 cars. Among the sustainable elements are energy-efficient solar screens, fritted glass with integrated solar cells and an eco-roof. Before ground was even broken on the two towers, retail shops, conference facility, waterfront market and promenade, the innovative design for the Al Bateen Wharf Hotel had earned the 2007 People’s Choice Award from the American Institute of Architects, Portland, Oregon Chapter.
