South Waterfront River Bank Restoration

The largest redevelopment in Portland history lies adjacent to the magnificent Willamette River, a resource that has been abused for decades. Otak captured the opportunity to demonstrate how environmental restoration and green infrastructure can be integrated with large scale urban redevelopment. Approximately 250 feet of the riverbank was excavated to remove debris and reconstructed using bioengineered bank stabilization techniques. These enhancements, coupled with developer’s LEED aspirations, have made this one of the City’s most progressive urban-renewal districts.
