Astoria Intermodal Transit Center

Location: Astoria, OR
Client: Sunset Empire Transportation District

In preparation for the Lewis and Clark Expedition Centennial celebration, the City of Astoria made considerable investments in its infrastructure. Among the most high-profile was the renovation and retrofit of an existing building into a two-story intermodal transit with public waiting space and bathrooms, ticketing counter, transit offices and public meeting rooms. Located in the historic district downtown, the facility, restored to its original state, connects automobiles with rail services, includes parking, three-bus bays and shelters, a clock tower centered around a public plaza and provides waterfront pedestrian access to the trolley. Street improvements were also made, as were updates to the City’s sanitary, storm and water systems.
