North Russell Street

Location: Portland, OR
Client: PBOT

Otak designed more than 5,000 feet of new pedestrian improvements along Portland’s North Russell Street, a historic neighborhood undergoing change. The goal was to preserve existing roadway pavement and maintain accessible pedestrian connections while allowing for efficient freight and traffic movement. Otak’s design aimed to reconstruct failing sidewalks with new curb extensions, unify design elements and install street trees, street lights and stormwater facilities. ADA-accessible curb ramps and sidewalks were designed to match existing building entrances and driveways. Coordination with local property owners helped ensure the success of the project, which was completed in 2009 within budget.
