NE 138th Avenue Arterial Improvements

Widening NE 138th Avenue provided opportunities to improve roadway capacity, as well as safety for area residents and students of the adjacent elementary, middle and high schools. This project widened NE 138th Avenue from two to five lanes and incorporated bike lanes, sidewalks, underground drainage, street lighting and landscaped medians. A significant portion of the project fronts the middle and high school along with a district transportation center. Retaining walls up to 18 feet tall were required to mitigate impacts to the school grounds and neighboring residential properties. Sound walls were also constructed, as were new traffic signals and pedestrian improvements. These initiatives ensured that commuters, parents and students would all benefit from this federally-funded project.
