Development Regulations Framework for Abu Dhabi Metro Area
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE In the face of extremely rapid growth, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi adopted Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, an aggressive vision for a sustainable future featuring the principles of smart growth. The Urban Planning Council of Abu Dhabi selected Otak to design a spatial Development Regulation System for the entire metropolitan area of Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates’ capital city. The Otak team completed land use studies; urban form plans; economic analyses of the fiscal impact of key regulations upon development; site studies to enable redevelopment of eleven Downtown superblocks with the principals of smart growth called for in the new development code and integration of the regulations with the nation’s sustainability program. |
