North Wathba Masterplan
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE North Wathba, a community planned for Abu Dhabi’s eastern edge, is anticipated to become home to residents working in the nearby Capital City District. Otak completed the North Wathba Masterplan to accommodate 128,000 future residents for the 4,178-hectare site. The Plan establishes a system of open spaces that preserves existing significant desert landscapes and creates a hierarchy of parks that meets the needs of residents on the neighborhood, district and regional scale. The parks and open space system preserves the natural environment while providing well designed areas that respect the desert climate and cultural traditions. Requirements for sustainable design are met through the use of TSE (treated sewage effluent) for irrigation and the application of strict irrigation limits. |
