Diamond Creek Bridge
Location: Douglas County, OR Bridges often pose significant construction management challenges, but the location of Diamond Creek Bridge on national Forest Service land provided its own unique obstacles. This 250-foot bridge, built in 1935, was structurally deficient due to cracks in the girders and floor beams, so replacement was the only option. Otak provided construction and project management and coordination in addition to full preliminary and final design services, including location survey and mapping, utility coordination, extensive environmental assessments, bridge and roadway design and geotechnical investigations. The proposed replacement, a two-span curved steel plate girder bridge, rests on spread footing abutments and two mid-span columns founded on drilled shafts to deliver a solution that is both sensitive and sensible. |
