Tempe Town Lake Bridge Opening with Sunrise Ceremony

A sunrise ceremony Tuesday opening the pedestrian bridge over Tempe Town Lake includes a jog and bike ride open to the public.

Festivities begin at 6:30 a.m. at the edge of the lake at the Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway.

"This bridge does more than link two sides of our lake," Mayor Hugh Hallman said in a news release. "It helps reduce pollution by encouraging bicycling and walking to work."

The opening of the bridge follows a forum Monday night on four proposals for a new permanent dam on the western side of the lake. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Tempe Center for the Arts...
