Portland’s city council has given the go-ahead for a Union Station-area affordable housing project.

The council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve “phase C” of The Yards at Union Station effort. The project will be funded with a $565,000 loan and up to $4.4 million in tax-increment financing funds.

The project is located in the River District Urban Renewal Area, which is also home to the Pearl District.

The five-story structure will host 80 units. The other Yards structures have 535 mixed-income housing units.

The seven-acre site is a former brownfield that sits just east of the railroad station.
