Port Gives Riverwalk Big Boost

Good news for walkers, joggers and cyclists: by the end of the summer, the Port of Astoria will have paved pathways to some fantastic waterfront views.
A $1.2 million pedestrian path project that's been in the works since 2005 is coming to fruition. It extends the Astoria Riverwalk in several directions on the west side of town and provides two pedestrian connections to West Marine Drive.
Along the new path are up-close views of ships at the docks, on the Columbia River and in the Port's boatyard, as well as fish processing and log handling....
.....HLB Otak, Inc., of Gearhart designed the trail to minimize conflicts with future Port development. Goodfellow Bros. Inc. of St. Helens is doing the construction, which will include benches, landscaping and trash cans....
