Magnuson Park Wins Award

Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, 5/5/2010

The Washington Recreation & Park Association recently honored the Warren G. Magnuson Park Wetlands and Athletic Fields project in Seattle with its annual Best Park Design Award.

Awards were given at a ceremony April 15 in Tacoma.

The project was built on the former U.S. Navy air station, and supports both nature and sports enthusiasts. Five new sports fields and a sports meadow were added, with more than 35 acres of wetland and habitat areas interwoven into the design. The park includes baseball and softball fields, as well as a synthetic surface rugby field and space for ultimate frisbee.

The wetlands are home to an array of wildlife, including migrating and native birds, amphibians, small mammals and reptiles.
