Juanita Drive and 68th Avenue NE Preliminary Design Study’s Public Meeting a Success

More than 80 community members attended a public meeting for the Juanita Drive and 68th Avenue NE Preliminary Design Study on the evening of Wednesday, November 14, 2007. At the meeting, city staff and the consultant project team from Otak, Inc. presented three preliminary alternatives to illustrate the potential safety and traffic enhancements that could be made to the corridor. All three alternatives consisted of sidewalks along the east side of the road, bicycle lanes in both directions, and a center turn lane. Variations between the alternative included intermittent sidewalks along the west side of Juanita Drive, planted center medians, and planter strips between the sidewalk and roadway among other things.

A presentation was given by the consultant project team in which they explained the alternatives and the differences between them. "These alternatives are here to illustrate the different options we are looking at for Juanita Drive," Curtis LaPierre, of Otak, Inc., announced during the presentation. "In all reality, the final recommended alternative will most likely be a hybrid of the three alternatives - incorporating portions of each."

Comment forms were also made available for community members to provide comments on the alternatives and the overall project. This form is available for your use here. Comment forms will be accepted until November 30, 2007. Also, PDF files of the boards displayed at the meeting can be found by clicking here.
