On Saturday, July 11, several Otakians joined other Habitat for Humanity volunteers and future home owners to help construct homes at Allen Estates in Beaverton, Oregon. The homes were in various stages of construction, and volunteers participated in tasks ranging from blocking and sealing to constructing walls. The team enjoyed the slightly cooler weather and the opportunity to use power tools and pound in lots of nails!

Habitat for Humanity homeowners are required to spend 500 hours volunteering with the organization to work on their homes before they get their zero interest mortgages. The houses that we worked on cost approximately $85,000 to construct and are worth about $180,000 on the market.
